
On March 2, 1964 Industrias Metalúrgicas Apolo S.A. from Medellín, Colombia and Borg Warner Corporation from the United States of America went into partnership and constituted the corporation Ingersoll Apolo S.A., with the intention of producing agricultural discs in Colombia. In 1985 after a significant change in stockholders the company became part of the Chaidneme Group and the name was changed to Bonem S.A.
BONEN products are grouped into two lines, the agricultural line (discs and agricultural tools) and the automotive line (clutch discs and covers).
The automotive line began making clutch discs in 1971 with technology from Borg Warner Corporation. Later technology was also borrowed from French Valeo and Japanese Exedy. Currently, Bonem receives technical assistance from Valeo-France, Exedy-Japan, and Aisin Seiki-Japan. Bonem provides original equipment to car assemblers in Colombia and abroad, and supplies the spare-parts market through a large distribution network. Among its main customers in the auto assembly business are Compańía Colombiana Automotriz (Mazda-Mitsubishi) in Colombia, GM-Colmotores (GM, Suzuki, Isuzu) in Colombia, General Motors in Venezuela (GM, Isuzu, Suzuki), GM-Omnibus BB in Ecuador (GM, Isuzu, Suzuki), Sofasa (Renault -Toyota) in Colombia, Toyota in Venezuela, MMC in Venezuela (Mitsubishi, Hyundai) and Maresa (Mazda) in Ecuador.

Due to the top quality of its products and excellent customer service, BONEM has consolidated as a leading enterprise in its market sector.
Meeting all requirements for Colombian Technical Standard 1411, Bonem agricultural discs carry the ICONTEC SEAL since 1988. Besides this National distinction, the company has been recognized as a Q-101 supplier by Ford Motor Co., “Global Sourcing” by General Motors, and EAQF-94 “A” by Renault. This has allowed Bonem to compete successfully in international markets.
The quality of BONEM products has been certified throughout the years by the QMI – Quality management Institute of Canada as follows:
ISO 9002 –1994 and QS 9000 – 1995, in November 1997
ISO 9002 – 1994 + requirements QS-9000 – 1998, in July 1999
ISO/TS16949:2002 (replacing former QS-9000), in July 2006
BONEM was also certified by QMI, in February 2003, for meeting environmental requirements under ISO 14001 –1994; this certification was renewed in February 2004, and in January 2006 the company was certified under ISO14001:2004.
The Colombian institute for technical standards, ICONTEC - Instituto Colombiano de Normas Técnicas, certified BONEM for the quality of its agricultural line, in December 2001, under ISO 9002- 1994, and in December 2003 under ISO9001:2000.
Bonem S.A. is located in the city of Medellín, Colombia; facilities comprise an area of 22,230 square meters. Currently, including production and administration areas, BONEM employs 150 people
